Mike Zoppo is a host of exceptional ability. Studies show that a vast majority of guests attending events by Mike have been known to leave more elated than visitors to Santa's Workshop, The Lost of Continent of Atlantis, and the Fountain of Youth.
For this month's New York Women in Tech event, instead of a happy hour, we're putting together a movie night!
We're putting together a few clips on tech + social justice to screen. We'll drink wine, eat popcorn and hang out.
Tickets are $10 and proceeds will go to Digital Democracy, a non-profit organization that empowers marginalized communities to defend their rights.
This is a casual, social event. Our friendly hosts will introduce you to other attendees. After the clips, we'll hold an informal discussion.
We plan to show:
• The Internet's Own Boy: Story of Aaron Swartz (clips)
• Digital Democracy's interview with Tessa in Guyana (short interview)
• Others to be added
6:30 - 6:45 - Arrive, grab wine & beverages, and meet each other
6:45 - 6:50 - Intro
6:50 - 7:30 - Clips
7:30 - 8:30 - Discussions & mingling
Why We’re Here
Studies report that “network ties build social capital and are key to career opportunities and advancement.” - Source: Climbing the Technical Ladder, Anita Borg Institute
Personal networks are one of the largest contributors to career success. Yet, forming these connections can be difficult for women who work on mostly-male teams and participate in mostly-male industry groups. Our part in this industry is simple, yet has potential to achieve powerful outcomes.
